El Burro: bearing the burden, multi-day touring bicycle. Ditch it all and never look back...

…or travel through wine country with the strudy reassurance of a credit card, then go back to work on Monday.  As long as you travel by bicycle I don’t care how you do it.

The Capricorn El Burro is built with the stoutest tubeset available with consideration for rider weight and the expected weight of their gear so it’s not so stiff as to be uncomfortable.  Comes stock with all the braze-ons you need for front and rear pannier racks– you can even customize your order with a set of 4130 cro-mo or stainless steel racks hand-built by the framebuilder.  Available with 700c for a smooth ride or 26″ wheels for heavy-duty use.  Prices start at $2500 and range up to around $3400 for a completely lugged and silver-brazed frame and fork, a set of handmade touring racks, and a Spectrum finish.

Capricorn frame features

Hand-Cut Kickstand Plate

When parking a loaded touring bike it's best supported vertically. The Pletscher Two-Legged Kickstand opens in a V-formation, forming a tripod with the front wheel. To spare the El Burro's chainstays from the sort of crimping that can happen with conventional mounting brackets, I now add an 1/8" 4130 kickstand plate. I cut my own with a drill press and handfiles. They even have a fender eyelet and rails to keep the mounting bracket held square.

Up to Four Water Bottles

More often than not the down tube can support three water bottle cages. While this still doesn't represent a vast amount of water for a day's worth of touring, in a bad situation that extra bottle could save your life.

Custom Racks

If you send me your panniers, trunk bags, luggage, etc., I can build the racks and the frame around them. Racks are available in either stainless or 4130 depending on application, and are only limited by our collective imaginations and your budget.
